Term Definition
Quadrant

One of the four equal sections into which the dental arches can be divided; begins at the midline of the arch and extends distally to the last tooth.

Radicular

Pertaining to the root.

Rebase

Process of refitting a denture by replacing the base material.

Recalcification

Procedure used to encourage biolgic root repair of external and internal resorption defects.

Reimplantation

The return of a tooth to its alveolus.

Reline

Process of resurfacing the tissue side of a removable prosthesis with new base material.

Retainer

Appliance to stabilize teeth following orthodontic treatment.

Retrograde Filling

A method of sealing the root canal by preparing and filling it from the root apex.

Root

The portion of your tooth below your gumline.

Root Canal

A procedure in which a severly decayed tooth's nerve is replaced.

Root Planing

A definitive treatment procedure designed to remove cementum and/or dentin that is rough, may be permeated by calculus, or contaminated with toxins or microorganisms.

Salivary Gland

Exocrine glands that produce saliva and empty into the mouth.

Scaling

Removal of plaque, calculus, and stain from teeth.

Sealant

A resinous material designed to be applied to the occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth to prevent occlusal caries.

Sedation

A drug-induced depression of consciousness. There are varying levels of sedation which affect how responsive the patient will be.
